In a bid to break a 28% marketshare tie with rival Marvel, DC Comics has an agreement in principle to acquire a smaller comic book house called WildStorm Productions. The pick-up will give DC a 4% edge, as well as boosts in sales and licensing revenues. WildStorm reportedly shipped 6.5 million books in 1997, and is gearing up for a summer release by Buena Vista of a direct-to-video starring its team Gen-13 characters. WildStorm is associated with Image Comics, an umbrella cooperative made up of ex-Marvel artists.
