The average elephant trunk weighs 300 pounds, contains 150,000 muscle units and can grow up to six feet long. These are just some of the elephant facts kids can learn by reading Little Bull: Growing Up In Africa’s Elephant Kingdom (US$12.95), targeted to kids age six and older, new this month from Sterling/Discovery Kids.

Based in part on the IMAX film Africa’s Elephant Kingdom, which debuted in U.S. theaters in the spring, the book tracks the development of Little Bull, a 250-pound baby African elephant, as he struggles to find his way in the animal kingdom. Little Bull, which will be available to consumers at all major bookstores beginning September 1, marks the first title published on Discovery Channel Pictures’ inaugural IMAX pic, and is part of the merchandising program it’s coordinating for the release. Other products include plush elephants (US$5 to US$18) and the home video version (US$15) of the movie. Starting this month, both items will be sold exclusively out of gift shops found in U.S. museums that feature IMAX theaters.
