Entertainment One is hitting the road with new broadcast deals for CGI-animated preschool series Ricky Zoom in Europe and China. The newly signed on networks, Super RTL (Germany), Clan TV (Spain) and Youku (China), will start airing the show in the fall.
Gulli (France), Discovery Kids (LatAm) and RAI (Italy), have previously signed on and will premiere the 52 x 11-minute series this summer. Co-produced by Italian prodco Maga Animation and Parisian prodco TeamTO (which previously partnered with eOne on PJ Masks), the action comedy follows the titular character, a red motorbike, on adventures with family and friends in a town made for bikes.
Global master toy partner TOMY International is leading a global consumer products program for the brand, with a range of products set to debut at retail in spring 2020. Last year, eOne’s president of family and brands Olivier Dumont told Kidscreen that it plans to expand this program with apparel shortly after the CP hits shelves.
The vehicle-centric series joins eOne’s slate of popular preschool properties including Peppa Pig, PJ Masks and Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom. In the prodco’s financial report for the first half of 2018 (the most recent available), it reported that the strength of its family and brands category partially offset the lower performance in its film and television business, which saw revenue drop 7% to US$425 million. Overall eOne’s Family & Brands business grew 29% to US$97.5 million in the first half 2018, due to the continued popularity of Peppa Pig (up 18%) and PJ Masks (up 44%), as well as the delivery of new show Cupcake & Dino: General Services.
