Nickelodeon has greenlit a second season of the animated preschool series Rainbow Rangers. Produced by Beverly Hills-based prodco Genius Brands, the upcoming season will join season one on Nick Jr. in Q4.
The series is produced by Rob Minkoff (The Lion King), Shane Morris (Frozen), Tim Mansfield and Elise Allen (Dinosaur Train), with Genius’ CEO Andy Heyward serving as EP. Season two will continue the rescue-based adventures of seven super-powered girls who protect people, animals and Earth from danger. It follows the first season’s debut in November, which spawned a massive range of licensed products, including Cra-Z-Art (crafts and activities), Esquire Footwear (footwear), Integrity Vitamins (vegan gummy vitamins) and Townley Girl (beauty and health).
Those four licensees joined a roster of more than 25 other licensing partners already on board for this year’s retail launch, including Mattel (master toy), MacMillan Publishing (master publishing), Bentex (master apparel), A.M.E. (sleepwear), Berkshire Fashions (accessories), BioWorld (bags and backpacks), Ceaco (puzzles)and Disguise (costumes).. More than 350 consumer product stock keeping units, from more than 20 blue-chip manufacturers, are going to hit the market in July.
The 52 x 11-minute season-two pickup follows Nickelodeon beefing up its preschool content catalogue, having acquired a second season of Canadian prodco Nelvana’s animated series Corn & Peg.
