This year’s Latin American Audiovisual Market (MIDIA 98) takes place June 16 to 18 at the IFEMA Convention Centre of the Juan Carlos I Trade Fair Park in Madrid, Spain.
More than 2,000 people attended last year’s event.
New this year is DIGISAT 98, an international program market for satellite and cable, taking place at the same time as MIDIA 98. Also new this year is a co-production market.
At MIDIA 96 and 97, more than 2,000 million pesetas (more than US$12 million) worth of business was conducted.
Industries attending the market include: television and film production, television and film distribution, television networks, cable and satellite services, home video and multimedia.
The MIDIA 98 awards are given in a variety of categories, including best children’s program and best cartoon series. The aim of the awards is to encourage and promote cultural exchanges among Spanish-speaking countries by increasing the distribution of Spanish films and TV programs. Last year’s award for best children’s program went to Cebollitas from Televisión Federal in Argentina.
