– Griffin Bacal moves house
Griffin Bacal will be relocating in March and occupying space in the same building as its parent company, DDB. The ad agency will continue to work independently and autonomously of DDB, but can share the use of DDB’s facilities, equipment and studios. Griffin Bacal president Paul Kurnit says that he expects no staff reductions as a result of the move.
– NBA scores with videos
NBA Video plans to target both kids and adults with its campaign for its two new videos, Shaq `Round the World and NBA 2000: Stars for the New Millenium.
Radio, arena and print advertising in such publications as Inside Stuff, Slam, Sport and Sports Illustrated for Kids is slated for Shaq `Round the World, which features in-depth interviews with basketball, music and movie star Shaquille O’Neal.
NBA 2000: Stars for the New Millenium features highlights from the professional, high school and college careers of some of the youngest players in the league, including Toronto Raptors’ Damon Stoudamire and Grant Hill of the Detroit Pistons. The campaign will include print and broadcast media, as well as in-arena promotions targeted at males age 12 to 24 in select markets. Both videos will also be promoted and offered for sale on the NBA’s Web site (www.nba.com).
– A melt-in-your-mouth deal
Nickelodeon and candy manufacturer M&M/MARS have joined forces for Rugrats-A Live Adventure. M&M’s MINIs has signed on as the presenting partner for the live touring show.
The deal includes a national on-pack instant-win game on approximately 50 million MINIs packages and six collectible Rugrats characters on specially designed labels. Promotions include point-of-sale banners and signs in each market in which the tour appears.
Rugrats-A Live Adventure is presented by PACE Variety Entertainment, and launches in the first quarter of this year.
M&M’s MINIs milk chocolate candies were introduced in 1996. The candies, specially designed for kids, come in tubes and are one-third the size of regular M&M’s.
– The twins release another video
DualStar Video and WarnerVision are readying a campaign to launch two new Olsen twins titles in March. The videos, You’re Invited To Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Ballet Party and You’re Invited To Mary-Kate & Ashley’s Camp Out Party, are part of a series featuring the former stars of the television series Full House. A national print advertising campaign will be targeted at children age eight to 12, with ads running in Nickelodeon Magazine, People, Disney Advenures and Girl’s Life. Entry forms for a contest, in which kids can win a trip to New York City to attend a performance of the New York City Ballet and meet the twins, will be available with the videos and in magazine ads.
– Creatures in a bag
For six weeks beginning in August, Kratts’ Creatures and fast-food restaurant Jack in the Box will team up to offer Kratts’ Creatures premiums in every Kids Meal bag. Over a million bags will be created featuring Kratts’ Creatures graphics, as well as games and activities.
There are more than 1,300 restaurants in the Jack in the Box chain, located primarily in the south and the western U.S.
Last year, Wendy’s featured a Kratts’ Creatures back-to-school promotion in all of its 4,800 locations.
