In a move that supports findings that a growing number of kids are surfing the Internet, software publisher The Learning Company is bringing its Internet filtering software, Cyber Patrol, to retail this month. To date, the software has been available for purchase over the Internet and by telephone. Cyber Patrol allows parents to choose what content on Web sites and in chat rooms is appropriate for their children. Parents can block material organized into 12 categories, such as violence and nudity, and can customize settings for up to 10 different children. The software will be offered in stores in the U.S. only, and will carry an estimated street price of US$39.95.
