The Second World Summit on Television for Children occurs March 9 to 13, 1998, in London, England, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre.

The first summit, held in Australia in 1995, attracted 630 participants from 71 countries. Organizers of the second summit expect more than 1,000 international delegates, including 70 children who will be specially invited from countries around the world.

A children’s charter for television was drafted and endorsed by delegates at the 1995 summit. Elements of the charter have been included in the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been adopted by more than 170 countries.

The goals of the summit include encouraging the production of high-quality, entertaining children’s programming and raising the political profile of children’s television worldwide.

The summit features a wide range of events for both general interest and niche audiences. Each of the five days will have a different theme: programming, politics, money matters, new technology and the future. Components include keynote speeches, debates, screenings of children’s television programs, a cybercafž and technology playground and a children’s video library.
