Distributor Jetpack has secured the first European broadcasters for Greenstone TV's live-action sci-fi thriller.

London-based distributor Jetpack has secured the first European broadcast deals for all three seasons of New Zealand live-action series The Cul de Sac.

The broadcasters that picked up the 18 x half-hour show from the Kiwi prodco Greenstone TV, include BBC’s on-demand streaming service iPlayer and linear channels YLE (Finland) and DR (Denmark). BBC plans to air the series later this year. Meanwhile, YLE and DR have not confirmed a broadcast schedule for the sci-fi thriller, according to a spokesperson for Jetpack.

Targeted at nine- to 16-year-olds, and a co-viewing audience, the dystopian thriller is about a group of kids who have to survive in a world where all the adults have mysteriously vanished. It originally launched on New Zealand channel TVNZ2 in 2016 and is now available on channel’s online viewing service TVNZ OnDemand.

While the indie prodco Greenstone has traditionally produced factual, drama and documentary series and films for TV that are aimed at all ages, it has a handful of properties targeted for tweens and older kids, including Millennium Teen, In beTWEEN and The Amazing Extraordinary Friends.

When Jetpack picked up the distribution rights for The Cul de Sac last year, it was the first live-action teen series the distributor had ever acquired, since it previously focused on preschool properties.
