A series of senior executive appointments have followed a major restructuring of Marvel Entertainment Group in the wake the New York-based entertainment company’s bankruptcy filing.

The company has combined its sports and entertainment trading card business (Fleer/Skybox), its international sticker business (Panini) and its on-line entertainment and interactive software business into one new business unit, Marvel Enterprises.

Scott Marden, executive vice president and director of Marvel Entertainment Group, takes over as president and CEO of Marvel Enterprises. He was also CEO of Marvel Interactive.

Recent executive changes at Marvel Entertainment Group’s Marvel Comics Group involve:

– Shirrel Rhoades, who joins Marvel Comics as executive vice president, publishing. Rhoades has more than 30 years’ experience in the publishing business at such publications as Early Childhood Today and Ladies Home Journal, as well as a stint as vice president and group publisher at Scholastic.

He will oversee operations of Marvel’s approximately 60 comic book titles and will guide plans for the extension of Marvel Comics product lines.

– Jackie Carter becomes vice president and editorial director, children’s publishing, Marvel Comics. Carter will oversee the development of Marvel publications for children under 12 years. Carter was most recently editor in chief of Weston Woods/Scholastic New Media.

– Helen Isaacson, formerly vice president and general manager of international licensing and merchandising with Turner Home Entertainment, is now executive vice president, worldwide licensing for Marvel Comics Group (see ‘People in new jobs,’ page 20). Isaacson will handle all licensing, merchandising, advertising sales and creative services for Marvel Comics Group and Marvel Entertainment Group on a global basis.
