The giants of the toy and entertainment industries, Mattel and Walt Disney, are said to have signed an exclusive three-year deal for Disney’s film and television properties.
Mattel and Disney have combined on major licensed toy successes in recent years, including such box-office and related toy hits as The Lion King, Pocahontas and Aladdin.
The agreement, which is said to begin in 1997 with the release of Disney’s much-anticipated animated feature film Hercules, comes at a time when Disney has also entered talks of an exclusive arrangement with global fast food chain McDonald’s Restaurants (see page 6).
