Media conglom Viacom has acquired a minority interest in Italian kids animation and consumer products company Rainbow Group.
Last year, Viacom’s Nickelodeon forged a global content-based partnership with privately owned Rainbow around the Winx Club franchise. The agreement gave Nickelodeon TV rights for Winx Club in the US and pay-TV rights for Latin America, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Benelux as well as all merchandising distribution rights in these regions. That partnership also includes the co-development and co-production of seasons five and six of the series and gives Nickelodeon access to the existing Winx Club TV series, two theatrical films and merchandising rights in the US, Latin America, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Benelux.
