Santa Monica, California-based Spoken Word is launching a series of Babblemania kids language apps, with a new Spanish-language learning app first out of the gate. The animated Babblemania Spanish app for the iPhone or iPad teaches through game play and will be followed by learning apps for Mandarin, French, Japanese, Korean and German languages.

The games are the brainchild of Alvin & the Chipmunks, Stuart Little and Casper film executive producer Steve Waterman, who collaborated with a game producer from Lucas Learning/Lucasfilm and Rockstar Games.

The Babblemania library of apps will be distributed on its website, where a variety of content will be available as a subscription-based offering. Teachers will have access to the website free of charge.

An animated Babblemania-themed TV series is also in pre-production.
