With kids spending more time at home than ever, The LEGO Group partnered with IKEA to launch a new range focused on storage. The BYGGLEK line will be available in existing IKEA retail channels across North America and Europe (excluding Russia) on October 1.

The range includes a series of storage boxes covered with LEGO studs and a special brick set to encourage kids to incorporate cleaning up into their play. The storage boxes are compatible with all existing LEGO elements.

By allowing children to integrate these boxes into their builds, kids can tidy up without destroying their LEGO sets and even display their creations on top of the storage. The inspiration for the range came from the recent IKEA Play Report and the 2020 LEGO Play Well Study, which found that 50% of parents worry about their child making a mess, and even feel a compulsion to tidy up around their kids while they’re still playing (51%).

“Where adults often see mess, children see a stimulating creative environment and BYGGLEK will help bridge the gap between these two views to ensure more creative play in homes around the world,” IKEA designer Andreas Fredriksson said in a statement.

To keep the fun going even when kids are learning from home long-term, LEGO Education has also launched free online resources and lesson plans for parents and teachers.

The Training Trackers unit, for example, teaches kids core science and math concepts, while new guides for teachers include tips on engaging online learners and managing materials at home. The resources also focus on in-person or hybrid efforts to maintain hands-on learning even when kids are attending school from home.
