Mattel Television is ready to deal out a new series inspired by its UNO brand. The unscripted game show format will see four teams face off to become the ultimate UNO champion and feature elements like audience participation, physical challenges and trivia.
LA-based Propagate’s Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Greg Lipstone will serve as executive producers on the series, along with John Quinn (The Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal). According to the company, this show is part of a broader slate of unscripted television content being developed by Mattel Television.
UNO is available at retail in more than 80 countries. The game will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2021, and recently launched several new versions, including UNO Showdown and UNO Nothin’ But Paper.
This UNO show is the toyco’s most recent effort to expand its content offerings. Earlier this year, Mattel Television announced it was developing two animated kids series for Netflix based on the He-Man franchise. In October, meanwhile, Mattel partnered with Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Studio on several 2D-animated seasons of Thomas & Friends.
The toymaker is also working on bringing multiple brands to the big screen, with feature films inspired by View-Master (in partnership with MGM), Thomas & Friends (alongside 2Dux2) and Hot Wheels (with Warner Bros. Pictures Group). Additionally, Mattel Films is producing a live-action movie based on Barney, as well as a horror film inspired by the Magic 8-Ball (in partnership with Blumhouse).
