Greensboro, North Carolina-based Carson-Dellosa Publishing, in partnership with Guinness World Records, has announced its Guinness World Records Classroom Challenge finalists.

The grand-prize winning classroom will have the chance to break an existing record in front of a Guinness World of Records rep. and will receive a US$1,000 Carson-Dellosa Publishing gift certificate for its school. There are a number of secondary prizes.

Between January 26 and March 9, teachers throughout the US were given the opportunity to nominate their classroom or school to challenge a record relating to science, math, geography, social studies and language arts.

And the finalists are:

John Motley Morehead STEM Academy, Charlotte, N.C. – Donna Eastabrook nominated her students to set a new world record, largest biology lesson.

P.S. 272, Brooklyn, N.Y. – Jennifer Quaranto nominated her students to set a new world record, largest tangram mosaic.

Springdale Elementary School, West Columbia, S.C. – Susan Jenkinson nominated her students to break a new world record, most balloons held onto a person using static electricity.

Quail Run Elementary School, Phoenix, Ariz. – Kari Sjursen nominated her students to break a current world record, most adults reading to children in a single location.

Owingsville Elementary School, Owingsville, Ky. – Jessica Goldy nominated her students to break a current world record, world’s longest friendship bracelet.
