According to a new study from New York-based research firm PlayScience, today’s youth spend more than a work week’s worth of time with media, staying constantly connected to technology and often multitasking.
The Digital Natives study has found that kids ages six to 14, also known as Generation M, not only expect their media on multiple platforms, but they also want it to be mobile and multifunctional so that it fits with their busy lifestyles.
Among the technologies most coveted by this demographic are laptops, video game consoles, the iPod touch, handheld game systems and the iPad.
While kids report that only one out of the top five devices currently owned are handheld, their wish list indicates mobile devices occupy four out of the top five spots. The study also shows that kids want their technology to multitask just like they do. The devices they want have multiple functions, from entertainment to communication, while the bottom half of the list is more single-purpose technologies, such as televisions and digital cameras.
