Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios have signed a joint overall deal with Emmy-winning producer, writer and performer Wyatt Cenac to develop original series and movies for both divisions.

This exclusive multi-year partnership is designed to generate content targeting all demos—including preschool, kids, family co-viewing and adults—that will be earmarked for WarnerMedia’s platforms and third-party broadcasters and streamers.

Cenac’s first two development projects under the deal are a long-form animated feature and an animated series for adults, but no further details were available at press time. He will also assist on shows that other creators are developing at the studios on an as-needed basis.

Though Cenac is best known for his Emmy-winning work as a writer and correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, he also built a career in animation as a writer on Fox’s King of the Hill and as a voiceover actor on popular shows including Fox’s Bob’s Burgers and Netflix’s Bojack Horseman.

This partnership is the second joint overall deal for WBA and CNS since the studios’ president Sam Register took over both WarnerMedia-owned companies last year. Looney Tunes Cartoons executive producer Pete Browngardt signed the first one in March, focusing on content for preschool, kids and family co-viewing.

Separately, Warner Bros. Animation signed its first overall deal in February with American animation writer Wellesley Wild (Family Guy). Oscar-nominated writer/director Ava DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time) agreed to develop family-friendly animated series Wings of Fire for WBA as part of her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, and HBO Max inked a multi-year partnership with children’s author Mo Williams.
