PBS Kids is taking things off-screen and online with its first line of preschool toy products and new e-commerce site.
The line will initially consist of 20 individual wooden toys for preschoolers across various toy categories such as musical toys, themed playsets, construction toys and puzzles.
The toys – part of PBS’ ongoing transmedia mission to reach children across multiple platforms – will be available at online and in-store retailers come this fall. In the meantime, the pubcaster has just launched an online store that will offer the toys, educational books, customizable apparel, games and DVDs related to its host of characters.
The online shop, developed by eCommerce strategy firm Brand-Xpand, will feature branded products from such PBS series as Sesame Street, Curious George, Super Why and Angelina Ballerina. The shop will also feature exclusive items, including customizable backpacks, water bottles, room décor, apparel and birthday party supplies featuring children’s names and PBS programs and characters.
