The Pokémon Company International is developing a new unscripted series based on its top-selling toy brand, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).

The company isn’t revealing any details about the show concept yet, but it has issued a casting call for Pokémon TCG enthusiasts, collectors and players of all ages based in LA. And filming is scheduled to take place this year, sometime between August 20 and October 1. It’s also calling on fans to share their experiences with the brand in order to gain insight into what types of stories the series should focus on.

The Pokémon TCG debuted in Japan in 1996 before making its way to the US in 1999. The game is now available in 76 countries and has been translated into more than 13 languages.

According to New York-based market research company The NPD Group, it was the top-selling toy property at US retail in 2021 and it continues to maintain its reign heading into Q3 2022.

The card game’s most recent expansion, Pokémon GO, launched on July 1 and draws inspiration from the popular AR mobile game created by LA-based developer Niantic. This new 78-card set also features photorealistic art of Pokémon in rural settings and large cities from the real world.
