MTVNI signs raft of publishing and TV deals, lands new Nick Jr. block in Kazakhstan

On the heels of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Nickelodeon Consumer Products International has inked a series of publishing deals across its children's, teens and tweens portfolio of live-action and animated programming.

On the heels of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Nickelodeon Consumer Products International has inked a series of publishing deals across its children’s, teens and tweens portfolio of live-action and animated programming.

In Spain, Random House Mondadori has signed a deal to publish Dora the Explorer storybooks, activity books and novelty books. A full range of titles is also being rolled out through retailers Carrefour, El Corté Inglés, FNAC and specialist bookstores. Dora the Explorer will also be appearing in a branded magazine and new sticker collection thanks to a deal with Panini Espana. Additionally in Spain and Portugal NCPI has signed SpongeBob SquarePants with Editorial Everest for chapter books, storybooks, colouring, activity and novelty books as well as Media Live for novelty titles.

In the UK, Egmont Magazines will continue to publish the Dora the Explorer magazine and Titan will continue with its SpongeBob SquarePants title. Phidal Publishing’s novelty learning series titles for Dora the Explorer, Go! Diego, Go!, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Wonder Pets! will forge ahead and NCPI’s deal with Hinckler Books for Dora the Explorer and Go! Diego, Go! flash cards from has also been renewed.

On the television front, the company has also forged two deals for Nick preschool content in Kazakhstan and Afghanistan, including the launch of the first-ever Nick Jr. branded block worldwide.

Effective next month, Nick’s animated preschool programming will be localized and broadcast on national public broadcaster Kazakhstan1 and as a branded block on new kids’ channel, Balapan, in Kazakhstan.

The deal includes 204 episodes of Nickelodeon content, including seasons one thru five of Dora the Explorer, three seasons of Go, Diego, Go! and seasons one and two of Ni Hao, Kai-lan.

In Afghanistan, localised Nickelodeon programming will feature on the Ariana Television Network (ATN), Afghanistan’s most widely distributed free-to-air satellite TV network. ATN will air seasons one and two of Dora the Explorer. As part of the new deals, the series will be dubbed into Kazakhi, Dari and Pashto for the first time.

MIPCOM also proved successful for MTV Networks International, which inked a series of new deals for the CGI-animated Fanboy & Chum Chum, the new comedy series that revolves around the comic book-loving 10-year-old Fanboy and his best friend and trusty sidekick, Chum Chum.

In North Europe, Danmarks Radio has signed for seasons one and two of the animation, as has RSI in Switzerland. NRK in Norway has snapped up season one, while Canal+ has signed for the first season of the show for both its home territory of France and for French-speaking Africa. In Spain, the series will now broadcast on TV3 Catalunya.

In Latin America, the property will hit TVs in Uruguay with broadcaster Teledoce, Costa Rica (Teletica), Ecuador (Teleamazonas), Venezuela (Venevision), Nicaragua (Telenica) and Colombia (RCN).

The show has also been signed in Asia Pacific region by TV3 in Malaysia.
