JibJab – the eCard company behind the popular ElfYourself personalized videos – has made its foray into the kids market with customizable digital children’s books.

JibJab Jr. allows parents to make their kids the stars of iPad eBooks through dropping their photos and basic information such as age and gender into a pre-determined animated story.

The books have launched with two titles: The Biggest Pizza Ever, about a kid who wreaks havoc on a town with a gargantuan pizza pie, and The Alphabet Wrangler, which tells the story of a kid who has to chase the letters of the alphabet around the house after he or she mischievously escapes from a book.  New titles will be released every month starting this September with Ocean Commotion, an underwater adventure featuring singing and dancing sea life.

Aimed primarily at kids ages two to six, the app is free to download from the Apple Store and comes bundled with one free book. Additional books are US$7.99 each or US$3.99 if a parent signs up for the book a month plan.  Once a book is purchased, it can be personalized an unlimited number of times for no additional cost – a feature that will undoubtedly come in handy for households with multiple children.
