Dublin-based clothing chain Primark is laying the groundwork to more than double its presence in the US to 60 stores by 2026.
The retailer is best known for purveying a wide range of licensed apparel and housewares for kids and toddlers, including capsule collections featuring popular brands such as PAW Patrol, Gabby’s Dollhouse, SpongeBob SquarePants, Peanuts, Harry Potter and several of Disney’s iconic franchises. It also has licenses in North America for NFL and NBA product ranges.
Primark kicked off its latest expansion push in February with the launch of a second US distribution center in Jacksonville, Florida. The plan is for this new 550,000-square-foot facility to service stores that will be opening soon across the southern US, with an initial focus on Florida, Texas, Maryland and Tennessee, according to the company’s US president, Kevin Tulip.
The retailer currently operates 24 locations in northern states including New York, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia that are stocked by its primary distribution center in Pennsylvania. But in order to sustain the 17% annual revenue growth it achieved last year (up from US$9.72 billion to US$11 billion), Primark’s goal is to increase its global footprint from 400 stores to at least 530 by 2026.
