Primal Screen will soon be shutting down operations, marking the end of a nearly 30-year run in the animation industry.

The Atlanta-based design studio made the announcement on Linkedin two days ago (April 17), stating that it’s no longer accepting new projects and plans to close by the end of May.

Primal Screen launched in 1995 and is best known for creating on-air branding and playful TV spots for Cartoon Network during the late ’90s and early ’00s—popularly dubbed the kidsnet’s “powerhouse” era.

The studio has continued to produce work for various WBD brands over the years—including Boomerang promos, a “Hello Around the World” 2D-animated campaign for the Cartoonito preschool block, and animation for segments of the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest featuring characters from Teen Titans Go! (pictured).

Primal Screen’s resumé also includes work for other major kids media players, such as branding for Nickelodeon and PBS KIDS, and animation service work on a series called SciGirls for PBS’s Minnesota affiliate. Sesame Workshop is also a client, with the studio contributing to online game Elmo & Grover’s Farm Time Fun and producing the “Letter of The Day” segment for season 51 of Sesame Street.

Primal Screen did not cite a specific reason for its closure. But this news follows closely behind an announcement earlier this week that UK-based studio Factory Transmedia has entered into voluntary liquidation due to challenging market conditions stemming from a downturn in kids content commissions.
