Hasbro is teaming up with China’s Max-Matching Entertainments and investment firm Shanghai Peiqi Enterprises Management to construct Peppa Pig’s first outdoor theme park in Asia.

Slated to open in 2027 on 48 acres of Shanghai’s Changxing Island, the project is budgeted at US$331 million and will break ground later this year. Plans are still early in development, but initial designs for the park’s attractions include rides, immersive live shows, dedicated play areas and a themed hotel to keep guests on-site for multiple days.

Cai Xiaofei, deputy director of Changxing Island’s Administrative Committee, says Peppa’s park will be the first branded entertainment offering on the island, which is already home to Shisha Wildlife Park, Mongolia Village Racecourse and Xianfeng Resort. It should significantly bolster Changxing’s tourism business and attract global travelers.

Peppa debuted in the APAC market nine years ago, and her long-running 2D-animated series has accrued more than 60 billion lifetime views on regional linear channels and streaming platforms including CCTV, Youku and Tencent Cloud.

Earlier this year, Hasbro inked a deal with UK-based Merlin Entertainments and The LEGO Group to open Peppa’s first standalone theme park next to LEGOLAND Deutschland in Germany next month.
