Netflix has released the latest edition of its What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report, breaking down its most-viewed content for the first half of this year.
PG-13 fantasy pic Damsel was the period’s most-watched film with an impressive 143.8 million views. And The Super Mario Bros. Movie (pictured) also made the overall top five, with 80.3 million views.
Other strong performers included Minions (72.7 million) and Despicable Me 3 (61.6 million), likely buoyed by anticipation for the Universal/Illumination franchise’s latest installment Despicable Me 4, which bowed in theaters this summer. Kids movies The Boss Baby (63.6 million), Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp (57.4 million) and Shrek (56.9 million) also cracked the top-20 film list.
Meanwhile, Avatar: The Last Airbender racked up 71 million views and was fifth in the overall TV rankings. And Geek Girl—based on the same-name novel about a teen girl who becomes a model—was also in the top 50, with its first season generating 18.2 million views.
Among the strongest-performing animated TV offerings, reliable IPs like Peppa Pig and CoComelon emerged as standouts—especially season six of Peppa Pig (27.5 million views) and season one of CoCoMelon Lane (23.9 million views).
All told, audiences logged 94 billion hours of watch time in the first half of this year—a slight increase over 90 billion hours in the latter half of 2023.
