Paris, France-based Marathon Media will be heading to next month’s Mipcom and Mipcom Jr. with high hopes for its first pure cartoon comedy, Rekkit Rabbit (104 x 13-minutes).

The new series from the team behind Totally Spies is helmed by Marathon producers David Michel and Vincent Chalvon Demersay along with head writers Reid Harrisson (The Simpsons) and Mitch Watson (Scooby-Doo). Aimed at six- to 11-year-olds, the series will hit TF1 in France and Disney Channel EMEA this winter.

‘What we are seeing is that there is an increasingly high appetite for 11-minute comedies. There are very few of them,’ says Marathon GM David Michel, adding that he has more series with an 11-minute format in the pipeline. ‘There are a lot of comedies on the market but very few that actually get a North American stamp of approval, apart from Disney and Nick shows.’

In terms of marketing, Michel says Marathon intends to capitalize on the larger-than-life personality of the series’ titular character.

Rekkit Rabbit tells the story of a boy who decides to become a magician and in doing so is led to 10-foot-tall rabbit, a former magician’s assistant. What holds the story together is the unusual friendship that develops between the boy and the over-sized mischievous rabbit.
