Singapore’s August Media has acquired Edinburgh, Scotland-based children’s content producer Red Kite Animation in a deal that is expected to brighten opportunities for Singapore companies looking to break into international territories.
August Media has been actively seeking acquisition opportunities that will give it access to different markets and territories and The Red Kite Animation purchase marks the company’s first step in this direction.
Red Kite, founded more than a decade ago by children’s producer Ken Anderson, holds a production portfolio of animated short films and children’s television series including BBC and Channel 9 (Australia) series Dennis and Gnasher.
Under the terms of the deal, Red Kite Animation will operate as a subsidiary of August Media with Anderson remaining as creative director. In addition, he will take a seat on August Media’s board of directors and serve as executive director for August Media’s other business interests.
The company will be at MIPCOM and is expected to announce a host of deals that engage western animation companies and Singaporean producers.
