Barb is now tracking YouTube viewing on TV in the UK

In the report's first week, kids channels dominated the 20 most-watched list—and we'll give you two guesses which one came out on top.

Starting today, UK ratings tracker Barb has officially started reporting on the regional viewing of YouTube channels through television sets.

It’s a move that the company announced in February as a collaboration with research partner Kantar Media. And today’s launch comes right on the heels of Ofcom’s Media Nations report yesterday, emphasizing that one in five UK kids goes to the YouTube app as their first destination on TV screens.

Barb’s new YouTube viewing data will roll out on a weekly basis in its client portal, breaking down the total minutes viewed for the top 200 YouTube channels, along with other handy data like channel demo profiles, including details such as the age and sex of viewers.

The company says this is “the first TV joint-industry measurement system in the world” to incorporate YouTube channel viewing—and Barb COO Caroline Baxter notes that the data will be helpful for advertisers, regulators and programming execs looking to better understand reach on the Google-owned platform.

While the full data is reserved for clients, the firm did provide a snapshot of the top 20 most-watched channels in today’s inaugural report, which measured viewing for the week that ended on July 20—and it should dispel any doubt about the domination of children’s content on YouTube.

Kid-friendly channels accounted for more than half the top 20, with Peppa Pig’s official channel (41.1 million subscribers) coming out on top with a reach of 758,000 TV viewers ages four and up and more than 48 million minutes viewed on UK TV sets.

Mega brands like Bluey (11.6 million subs) and MrBeast (417 million subs) were ranked fifth and sixth, respectively. And Moonbug’s roster of digital-first IPs cornered a good share of the list, with Moonbug Kids – After School Club (8.34 million subs), Blippi Toys (14.3 million subs) and the main Blippi channel (25.3 million subs) all making the top 10.

It’s worth noting that rising YouTube star Danny Go! (3.44 million subs) ended up in 10th spot—an impressive feat for the music-driven kids channel in light of major competition like Baby Shark and WWE.

According to Barb, TV sets were the most popular viewing device for kids in the four-to-15 age bracket in the first half of 2025, accounting for 53% of this group’s WiFi-based YouTube viewing at home.

To identify the top 200 YouTube channels for its weekly list, which is based on viewing volume and other factors like brand safety, Barb worked closely with YouTube-focused ad company SeeViews. YouTube channels operated by linear broacasters are not included in the data, since Barb already captures this digital performance in its TV viewing reports.
