Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed the next original movie in its pipeline—a fantasy adventure called Hexed.
The project was officially announced on Saturday during the latest edition of Disney’s fandom event Destination D23 (August 29 to August 31) in Florida.
The film stars an awkward teen and his type-A mom as they uncover how the boy’s unusual qualities may actually be magical powers. Josie Trinidad (Zootopia+) and Jason Hand (Moana 2) are directing, with a theatrical release date planned for November 2026.
As an original feature, Hexed will be a test for the studio, which has faced box-office disappointments recently with originals like Strange World (2022) and Wish (2023). The studio also has two heavy-hitting sequels coming up: Zootopia 2, which rolls out November 26 this year, and Frozen III, due out on November 24, 2027.
Meanwhile, here are a few other announcements from Destination D23 you may have missed:
- Speaking of Zootopia 2, the event revealed that actors Yvette Nicole Brown and Patrick Warburton will join the voice cast for the film. Brown has double cameos as The Bearoness and EMT Otter, while Warburton will voice the “charismatic but clueless” stallion, Mayor Winddancer.
- Disney will re-release the original Toy Story movie this month (September 12) to mark the film’s 30th anniversary—and build anticipation for the franchise’s fifth installment, which will open on June 19 next year. Attendees got a sneak peek clip of Toy Story 5, featuring Smarty Pants (Conan O’Brien).
- The upcoming sixth Ice Age film, which was revealed to be in the works last year, now has a title and a release date. Ice Age: Boiling Point will roll out on the big screen on February 5, 2027. Disney teased mainstays Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Scrat in a “dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure,” though plot specifics remain light.
- Disney+ confirmed a new CG-animated film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw, will hit the streamer on December 5. Based on the third Wimpy Kid book by Jeff Kinney, The Last Straw explores how protagonist Greg deals with an ultimatum from his dad to change his wimpy ways or end up in military school.
- A spring 2026 opening was confirmed for Disneyland Paris’ World of Frozen theme park addition. This addition is part of previously announced plans to transform Walt Disney Studios Park—by doubling its footprint and renaming it as Disney Adventure World.
