Disney+ and Spain’s Atresmedia ink a streaming deal

It's the latest broadcaster-streamer alliance for the Mouse House after similar pacts with ITVX and ZDF.

Partnering with yet another local player in Europe, Disney+ has finalized a new content agreement with Spanish media company Atresmedia.

The streamer’s subscribers in Spain will be able to watch a selection of titles from the banner, included under a dedicated “Atresplayer” section—which should be launching sometime this month.

While the financial terms of the deal were not shared, it will give Disney+ co-exclusive rights to air a range of productions from the Spanish mediaco. Atresmedia operates TV channels, radio stations, a streaming service called Atresplayer and has produced titles like teen drama FoQ: The New Generation (2025) and 2021 family comedy feature The Kids Are Alright.

The deal covers 300 hours of content from Atresmedia annually, helping extend the reach of the broadcaster’s catalogue while also giving Disney+ more locally resonant stories. Partnering with European broadcasters for this advantage is fast becoming a tried-and-true strategy for Disney, which also closed major streaming deals in Germany (ZDF) and the UK (ITV) this summer.

And Disney isn’t the only streamer to start partnering with local broadcasters. Netflix kicked off the trend in June when it announced a partnership in France to stream TF1’s content on its service, with Amazon and France Télévisions announcing a similar deal shortly thereafter.

While the Atresplayer hub on Disney+ will be refreshed constantly, the first batch of titles landing there will include singing talent show La Voz (a local edition of The Voice), popular talent competition Tu cara me suena and the comedy series Aquí no hay quien viva (rated for audiences 12-plus).
