Hasbro has announced that it will move its headquarters next year, leaving Rhode Island after 100 years to establish new roots in Boston’s Seaport District.

The move will see at least 700 of the toyco’s full-time employees relocate from Pawtucket to occupy a new seven-floor office on 400 Summer Street by the end of next year. Owned by property manager WS Development, this 265,000-square-foot facility will be the primary headquarters for Hasbro’s core toys, board games and licensing businesses, in addition to most of its corporate services.

CEO Chris Cocks says Hasbro chose Massachusetts as the location of its next home office because of Boston’s thriving business community, deep academic partnership opportunities and innovative tech centers, which the toyco will leverage to attract talent to the company. Together with its Seattle-based hub that houses Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, Cocks says both offices will drive the next chapter of the toyco’s growth.

Hasbro had been considering a move since as early as 2019, and was reportedly pitched offers from several states, but Massachusetts’ then-governor Charlie Baker and Boston mayor Michelle Wu proved to be the most persuasive.

In addition to its US hubs, Hasbro also operates major offices in Hong Kong, London, Mexico City and Montreal that all play critical roles in building and maintaining the toyco’s supply chain and supporting its brands through marketing, content and experiences.
