Classic kidlit series The Baby-Sitters Club by Ann M. Martin has a new musical stage show in development…with some “golden” songwriting talent on board.
According to Deadline, Mark Sonnenblick—who co-wrote multiple songs on the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack—will create music and lyrics for the production. This news arrives right on the heels of the hit animated film’s soundtrack hitting number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the first time. Sonnenblick penned five of its hit songs—standout track “Golden” as well as “Your Idol”, “How It’s Done”, “What It Sounds Like” and “Free”.
Annie Tippe (Octet) is attached to direct and choreograph the Baby-Sitters Club musical, with Kate Wetherhead (The Devil Wears Prada musical) writing the script.
This stage adaptation hails from the TWTheatricals division of nonprofit org TheaterWorksUSA, which specializes in creating shows for kids & family audiences, including Cat Kid Comic Club: The Musical and The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System.
Billed as a multigenerational show appealing to tweens, teens and nostalgic millennials, the stage show is set several years after The Baby-Sitters Club has disbanded and sees its founding members reunite to honor their teenage pact.Â
TheaterWorksUSA is eyeing a premiere in spring 2027, with an industry presentation scheduled to take place on November 13 in New York. It’ll be something of an entertainment return for The Baby-Sitters Club IP after Netflix canceled its two-season live-action series in March 2022.
