DEALS: Disney and MLB partner for new Topps trading cards

Also, Mattel has sold Barney's World to both Prime Video and Netflix in Canada, and new Bluey Christmas music launches.

  • Disney has scored its first multi-year partnership with MLB and Topps to create a new 200-card set. The first set of Topps Chrome cards roll out to hobby shops and major retailers today and will feature Mickey, Goofy and Donald wearing the uniforms of all 30 MLB teams. The partners plan to release new sets every year, with the characters rotating between major-league divisions.

 

  • Amazon Prime Video and Netflix have both added Mattel Television Studios’ CG-animated preschool series Barney’s World (26 x 11 minutes) to their streaming libraries in Canada. In addition, Amazon will carry the full range of Barney’s World toys in Canada starting today. 

 

  • Ludo Studios has teamed up with BBC Studios’ record label Demon Music Group to drop Bluey’s first Christmas music single, “Verandah Santa,” across music streaming services today. The partners will follow this up by rolling out three more seasonal songs on November 7, including “I Don’t Have a Chimney” and a Christmas version of the Bluey theme. 

 

  • Rovio Entertainment and The Pinkfong Company have secured deals with the kids e-learning platform SKIDOS to develop a new series of educational mini-games around Angry Birds and Baby Shark. The games will roll out onto SKIDOS in the fourth quarter, with the Angry Birds collection focusing on helping kids explore emotions and feelings. Meanwhile, the Pinkfong games will teach preschoolers about music, language development and refining their problem-solving skills. 

 

  • JAM Media has appointed Bulldog Licensing to manage L&M programs in the UK and Ireland for its CG-animated preschool series BeddyByes. The agency will focus on securing toy and publishing partners as well as bedding, bathtime, apparel and sleep aid manufacturers for kids.

 

  • Sinking Ship Entertainment has signed a raft of new broadcast deals for its Odd Squad and Dino-branded series. The sales include Gulli Max picking up Odd Squad (114 x 22 minutes) and Dino Dana (52 x 22 minutes) in France, beIN acquiring Dino Dex (13 x 22 minutes) and Odd Squad UK (12 x 30 minutes) across the Middle East and North Africa, and Canal Sur ordering the first three seasons of Odd Squad for Spain. 

 

  • Rocket Licensing has secured several new licensees for The Lumistella Company’s tenpole franchise The Elf on the Shelf in the UK. These include Unique Party UK (foil balloons) and Wild in Art (sculpture art trail). A touring 15-foot Scout elf will also travel to Liverpool and Bristol for events in partnership with the cities’ Business Improvement Districts.
