Google and Sesame Workshop teach the ABCs of digital wellbeing

The initiative comes as Sesame Street is about to bring more young viewers to YouTube.

Google is calling on Sesame Street’s cast of Muppet characters to help teach kids how to form healthy digital habits.

In collaboration with the tech giant, Sesame Workshop has launched a new wellbeing hub of videos, activities and resources—all focused on helping kids safely navigate an increasingly complex online world. Included are kid-friendly explainers about AI, interactive games, tips for mindful use of media and activities that help regulate screen time.

Of course, this isn’t the only recent partnership between the two companies. Just last month, Google’s YouTube announced that it will add hundreds of classic Sesame Street episodes starting in January, building on the IP’s already-impressive performance on the platform. And these new digital resources will undoubtedly come in handy when children flock to YouTube to see Elmo, Big Bird and the rest of the gang.

Sesame Workshop will also bring these lessons to kids IRL, hosting a new 45-minute workshop called “Raising Kids in a Digital World” in select US public libraries until the end of the year. Aimed at kids and families, these workshops will teach good tech habits and provide attendees with a toolkit that includes Sesame Street-branded activity guides and stickers.

This push stems from Google’s 2024 promise to promote the digital wellbeing of children and teens, in the form of improved parental controls and a pledge to invest US$20 million in orgs and initiatives that support the cause.
