DEALS: Odd Squad UK gets a second season

Meanwhile, several new licensing agents have joined Skibidi Toilet’s global expansion push, and France TV has picked up The Unreal.

  • Sinking Ship Entertainment and BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions have teamed up to make a second season of Odd Squad UK (pictured), which is in production now with CBBC, PBS KIDS and TVOKids. Fred Rogers Productions will distribute the series in the US, with Sinking Ship controlling the rights in all other regions. Produced with Fred Rogers Productions, the original Odd Squad show about kid agents solving unusual cases with math skills has sold in more than 200 countries and 25 languages around the world.

 

  • A few months after being appointed to move the viral Skibidi Toilet IP into consumer products, Global Merchandising Services has signed several regional licensing agents, including DeAPlaneta (France, Iberia and CEE), Prism (India and Bangladesh), MDL (Italy) and WP Brands (Australia and New Zealand). Last month, Global Merchandising Services closed licensing deals with Rubies (costumes) and Funko (figures) for the North American program. And in entertainment, Michael Bay (Transformers) is turning the animated web series about toilets with talking heads into a film.

 

  • France Télévisions has picked up season one of Dyehouse Films’ family-friendly live-action thriller The Unreal (four x 30 minutes) from distributor Serious Kids. The series premiered on Ireland’s RTÉ One last October, and Serious Kids distributes it worldwide, excluding Ireland. A second season for eight-and-ups is in production for a Q4 delivery, featuring more misadventures at a campsite plagued by a chaotic creature.

 

  • The British Museum has teamed up with the Peyo Company to add a tiny twist to how it teaches history. Starting in June, the Smurfs will be featured in location-based experiences around the museum, where kids will be invited to follow along with the little blue creatures in learning about ancient civilizations. There will also be Smurfs merchandise and pop-up activities available.

 

  • PVP Distribution has picked up international distribution rights to Spanish studio Media Solution Animation’s 2D toon Treehouse Friends. The educational preschool series (26 x five minutes) is produced by Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduction (Switzerland) and Media Solutions, and Swiss pubcaster SRG SSR is attached. Season one is in production now for a delivery “soon,” according to a release.

 

  • Spin Master’s Toca Boca digital studio has teamed up with retail chain Miniso to get plush toys, collectibles, tech and stationery based on its Toca Boca games into more than 200 stores across the US. The products are set to roll out starting on May 1.
