There’s a lot more Hey Duggee on the way, thanks to a new triple-powered commission by BBC Children’s & Education.

The decade-old preschool series from Studio AKA about a friendly dog who runs an after-school club has been renewed for three more seasons by the British broadcaster. Under the new deal, the BBC has also extended its rights to existing content in the franchise, including the 26 x seven-minute animated spinoff Squirrel Club. 

While multi-season orders aren’t common in today’s TV landscape, Hey Duggee has a stellar track record in ratings for the Beeb.

Just last month, on September 20, the show generated its biggest iPlayer viewership day of the previous 18 months, with 967,000 views in 24 hours—driven by the launch of the second half of the show’s fifth season. 

Since it launched in 2015, Hey Duggee has been streamed 1.36 billion times on the iPlayer platform. It has also steadily expanded its paw print beyond the screen, with toy partnerships, music collabs and live shows.

BBC Children’s director Patricia Hidalgo noted that the renewal deal “signals a bold, long-term commitment to UK animation, securing the show’s future as a vibrant, homegrown favourite for generations to come.”
