Vancouver-based animation studio Lightcatcher Media has hired industry vets Athena Georgaklis and Sarah Wall to help the studio grow its preschool IP Little Margo Stories with more content.
Georgaklis, formerly VP of Nelvana Studios, has come on board as executive producer. Since her departure from Nelvana last year, she’s been consulting with animation studios, including Happy Camper Media (Woodchuckchucks). She’ll be working with Wall, previously VP of animation production at WildBrain, who was brought on as senior producer.
Lightcatcher is hiring now, and plans to start production on new Little Margo Stories content in the spring.
Little Margo Stories is a preschool IP about the curious mole, Margo, who explores her underground home. Little Margo Stories has 337,000 subscribers on YouTube. Its short one- to two-minute, dialogue-free videos have drawn millions of views. The vid “Margo and Duckie – Ep 8” —where Margo helps a friend reach a cherry—attracted 23 million views; the channel as a whole has more than 100 million views.
Parinaz Shajareh, co-founder of Lightcatcher, created Little Margo Stories. She also wrote an e-book based on the series, Margo and the Mouse, which was released in January 2024. Shajareh previously had art director roles at Atomic Cartoons, WildBrain and Netflix.
The studio has also hired former Shaw Rocket Fund VP of partnerships and finance Nancy Laing as its head of business affairs.
