US video game retail sales for the month of July took a slight dip from the same period last year, according to market research firm The NPD Group.

While overall retail sales were down, new games like Starcraft II have helped the PC games category realize a 103% increase in dollars over last July. PC Games and video game industry sales combined were up 4% compared to July last year.

In terms of hardware, Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 platform both experienced significant increases, with the Xbox 360 coming in as the top-selling platform for the month.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s LEGO Harry Potter was the second-bestseller for the month with sales of 401,000 units across all platforms.
