Canadian studio Rodeo FX is opening a new studio in Bangalore, India, to unify its Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation teams, take advantage of local talent and set the company up to scale its production capabilities.
The VFX company acquired Mikros Animation in March 2025, and in recent months it’s been consolidating its two businesses under fewer roofs. In India, it’s moving the teams from both companies into a new 40,000-square-foot studio, which has room for 400 artists. That office is set to open this summer. Sivaraman S. T, who was previously part of Mikros Animation’s executive team, will run the office as head of studio.
Rodeo says it’s planning to expand the Bangalore team with local talent, but did not provide information about what positions it would be hiring for.
Rodeo FX aims for the office to be a “scalable hub” for both Rodeo FX and Mikros Animation, so it can produce more work. “India is the next logical step in our company’s growth strategy and will allow us to connect with a key market and incredible talent,” a Rodeo FX spokesperson tells Kidscreen.
Mikros is known for end-to-end animation, having worked on 17 feature-length films, including the three PAW Patrol feature films and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Rodeo FX, which already has offices in Canada, the US and France, has worked on films and series such as Stranger Things and it’s working on the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
Expanding in India is a natural move to kickstart more growth, since India has a strong talent pool, the company says. India has a 40% tax credit for international film and VFX projects. And it likely also helps that India’s labour and operational costs for animation production are much cheaper than in Western countries, thanks to local rates and favorable currency exchanges.
This consolidation comes as the company is making a similar move in France. Just last week, the company announced that it was moving both of the Rodeo FX and Mikros teams in that country into one Paris studio. Like in Bangalore, the company is making the move in order to streamline its business and strengthen creative synergy.
