KPDH is coming to life on stage
The rumors were true—HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys are gearing up to go on tour… for real. Netflix is partnering with LA-based live entertainment company AEG Presents to launch a KPop Demon Hunters global concert tour. The streamer didn’t reveal further specifics on the format of the shows (like whether they’ll involve holograms/avatars or appearances from the actual singing talent for the film) but it has already set up a waitlist for fans.
Matt Braly’s animated film has been revived
The Monk Studios in Bangkok has acquired the rights to the animator’s Thai-inspired movie Afterworld, according to an announcement posted on his socials. It’s a bounce back for the in-development project, which made headlines earlier this year after getting scrapped by Sony Pictures Animation. But the film is still looking for funding (Monk Studios will be seeking out partners and investors at Annecy next month). Braly, best known as the creator of Disney Channel series Amphibia, co-wrote the script with Rebecca Sugar.
Yo, ho! It’s a pirate’s life for Secret Cinema
The British entertainment company has licensed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl from Disney Theatrical Group to develop an immersive live production based on the 2003 adventure film. Secret Cinema will launch the swashbuckling experience for a limited 10-week run in London early next year. The company has previously adapted films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Back to the Future.
Melissa & Doug gets a new publishing range
Spin Master’s wooden toy brand is coming to bookshelves with fresh titles from Penguin Young Readers targeting ages two to five. The collection will kick off three books launching this October—a lift-the-flap book (What Do You See?), a “cookbook” built around play patterns with toy ingredients (The Toy Kitchen Cookbook) and a search-and-find title (Play All Day). Additional titles will roll out next year.
Talking Tom is hitting the big screen
Slovenian developer Outfit7 is staging a limited theatrical release for Talking Tom Heroes: Suddenly Super in partnership with London-based distribution agency AliLeo Media. The one-hour film will package moments from the CG-animated series. It’ll be released across the UK and key European territories this year, beginning in July.
