Omnilab Media, together with its visual effects, animation and digital creative studio Oktobor and California-based Backyard Animated Pictures, has launched Oktobor Animation, a new Auckland, New Zealand-based CG animation studio.
Oktobor Animation is starting out with work on several CGI TV series for Nickelodeon Studios, including The Penguins of Madagascar. Responding to the growing pool of CGI talent in the Auckland region, the new animation studio has hired 30 employees at the outset and is expected to provide up to 300 jobs over its first four years.
The new studio marks a first for New Zealand and comes after several months of planning and negotiation with both Nickelodeon and Backyard.
