Australian pubcaster ABC has renewed a second series of Dance Academy, with 26 new half hour episodes set to air on ABC1 and ABC3.
The second installment of the children’s drama series starts production in Sydney at the end of January 2011 and will once again be produced by Joanna Werner of Werner Film Productions. In series two, dancer Tara Webster returns with the goal of representing Australia in the world’s most prestigious ballet competition.
The first series was well-received by international broadcasters with sales soon to be announced by distributor ZDF Enterprises. The Dance Academy website also became the top visited TV website on the ABC3 portal during the show’s first broadcast run. Plans are underway to continue the online offerings to coincide with series two.
