Patience may be a virtue but it’s certainly not one of mine. I’m plagued by a restlessness that makes waiting for anything – a phone call, an e-mail, a pitch – almost unbearable. (I’ve even been known to board airplanes before they call my row number.) Unfortunately, I work in an industry in which waiting is the prerequisite for doing anything. Sometimes the wait is hours and sometimes it’s years. This week, I decided to make a list of all the things that I’m waiting for. I imagine that some of you will be able to identify with my list and I suspect others of you are actually responsible for it. Either way, here are just a few of the many things I am waiting for.

I am waiting for DVD’s to come back. I am waiting for teachers to get paid better than baristas. I am waiting for children’s media to become cool. I am waiting for the Small Potatoes to become the California Raisins. I am waiting on line at Shake Shack. I am waiting for a script note that says, “We love you, don’t change a thing.” I am waiting for Brussels sprouts to grow in my render farm.
I am waiting for New York to be declared a suburb of Toronto so I can work on my own shows. I am waiting for an app that explains the iTunes App Store. I am waiting for Buffy, my dog, to learn how to proofread my blog. I am waiting for Emmys to become as important as toy sales.
I am waiting for airports to have power outlets. I am waiting for preschool TV to get tax breaks all over the world. I am waiting for punctuation on Facebook. I am waiting for Europe to see the value of dubbing songs. I am waiting for Ming-Ming Duckling to reach her full potential.
I am waiting for a good cup of tea in America. I am waiting to see children’s shows that are as funny as children. I am waiting for reality TV to cease being a reality. I am waiting for Disney and Nickelodeon to kiss and make up. I am waiting for dumplings.
I am waiting for quality to finally reign supreme over quantity. I am waiting for the good to eclipse the shiny. I am waiting, always waiting, for the small things – the flowers, the dogs, and the kids – to get the same respect as the big things. And I am waiting for you to write in my little comment box and tell me what you are waiting for.
