The Hub picks up original and acquired series for October launch

The Discovery Kids/Hasbro joint venture channel, The Hub, has announced a new slate of programming to boost its advertiser upfront in the lead up to its US launch on October 10.

The channel, which will be have ratings at launch and be available to 60 million US households, is racking up a range of original, premiere and acquired series and specials. Among the animated and live-action shows are six original series along with seven US premiere series.

The Hub also announced scheduling details, including the network’s specific programming blocks including preschool (ages two to five) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., kids afternoon/kids prime (ages six to 12) from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., family prime access from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and family prime from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Original series include: Dan Vs. (Film Roman in association with The Hatchery), a series about a loveable misanthrope and his reluctant sidekick Chris who haphazardly seek revenge against the frustrations of modern life; half-hour live-action series L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour (The Hatchery), based on the spooky novel series of the same name; and The 99 (Teshkeel Media & Endemol Digital UK Production Group), an animated series based on a comic book series. As well, three Hasbro Studios original series are in the mix. Family Game Night is a live-action, original game show in which kids and adults play a variety of Hasbro games including Cranium, Bop-It and Connect4, while toy properties will get a turn in animated series G.I. Joe Renegades and Pound Puppies.

Acquired series premiering in the US include Animal Mechanicals (Halifax Films), Cosmic Quantum Ray (Moonscoop), Deltora Quest (Dentsu Entertainment USA), Maryoku Yummy (American Greetings Properties and DQ Entertainment in association with Telegael), Meerkat Manor (Oxford Scientific Films), Strawberry Shortcake (American Greetings Properties), The WotWots (Pukeko Pictures), and Twisted Whiskers (American Greetings Properties, co-produced with DQ Entertainment and Moonscoop). Also on the programming sked is Family Movie Night that will show a yet-to-be finalized list of popular family movies.

The series announced today will join The Hub’s previously named original series from Hasbro Studios, Transformers Prime and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
