Portland, Oregon-based animation company Laika (Coraline, the upcoming ParaNorman) has optioned the Philip Reeve-penned novel Goblins for the big screen as a 3D, stop-motion animated film for all ages.
Mark Gustafson (The PJs, The Fantastic Mr. Fox) is on-board to direct the film version of the Scholastic book published in the UK on April 5, 2012 that is set for a US release in fall 2013.
Goblins, set in a magical world of monsters, goblins and humans, follows the adventures of a young goblin named Skarper who gets swept up in a conflict that will determine the fate of the world.
Production and release dates have yet to be announced.
Guftafson is also currently co-directing Guillermo Del Toro’s new stop-motion adaptation of Pinocchio for The Jim Henson Company.
