Disney XD, in association with Major League Baseball Productions, has announced the premiere of Batboy, a short-form reality special that will debut on opening day of the MLB 2010 season, April 5.
The series allows young viewers to experience the world of Major League Baseball through the eyes of Daniel Chelgren, a teenage batboy for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The excitement of batting practice, pre-game prep and strategizing in the dugout with the pros will be captured in the special program aimed at kids six to 14.
Batboy is part of Disney XD’s evening of sports-themed programming, which will include the feature film The Sandlot: Heading Home and a new ep of Zeke and Luther.
On the preschool side, Disney Playhouse has picked up a second season of Jungle Junction. Produced by UK-based Spider Eye Animation, the series features the fast-paced adventures of jungle animals on wheels, where the storylines revolve around environment and its relationship with human activity. The second season’s 26 new interactive episodes will air globally in 2011.
Emmy Award-winning series Imagination Movers has also been renewed for another season. The preschool series, which stars the New Orleans alternative rock band, will begin filming its third season in the Big Easy in June. The season will feature the Imagination Movers concert special, which follows the success of the band’s recent 40-city tour. Walt Disney Records is also releasing a second-season soundtrack, featuring 18 songs from the show on June 8.
