HarperCollins Childern’s Books has secured the UK and Commonwealth rights from HarperCollins US (Greenwillow Books) for two titles by American teen author and musical prodigy Stefan Bachmann beginning with his debut fantasy novel The Peculiar.

The Peculiar, which the 18-year-old began writing at the age of 16, is set to be published by HarperCollins in hardback in September 2012 and its follow-up in paperback in spring 2013.

The novel, set in an alternative Victorian England where wolves and faeries exist, follows the adventures of a changeling child named Bartholomew Kettle.

Original musical pieces by Bachmann are also expected to launch in conjunction with the two book launches and will be used in a multimedia eBook. Three “Peculiar Pieces” will be available at publication, along with the intro, which can be heard here.

Bachmann, who was born in Colorado, has studied music at the Zürich Conservatory in Switzerland since he was 11 and plays the organ, piano, violin, recorder, and harmonica, and is studying composition.
