Forty years later and Sesame Street is continuing to expand its global footprint, this time finding a home in Nigeria, as Sesame Workshop develops Sesame Street Nigeria (working title).

The new children’s series (78 x half hours) will bring messages about staying in school, girl empowerment and HIV/AIDS to Nigerian children, made possible through a five-year grant from the United States Agency for International Development, which will also support outreach materials and conduct research to evaluate the program’s impact.

Season one, titled ‘We Can,’ will focus on empowering kids and encouraging them to stay in school. It will also portray community participation while having fun and being creative. Season two, ‘We Do It Right’ will zero in on honesty and integrity, courtesy and coping with mistakes, and season three ‘We Live Here’ will hone in on community activities that reflect the importance of culture and caring for the environment.
