After much speculation about who would fill Dick Cook‘s shoes at Walt Disney Studios, president and CEO Bob Iger has upped Disney Channel head honcho Rich Ross to the role of chairman of the film division.

Ross, formerly president of Disney Channels Worldwide, will now be responsible for overseeing worldwide production, distribution and marketing for the company’s live-action and feature animated film labels, including Walt Disney, Touchstone, Miramax and Disney/Pixar, as well as heading up Disney’s theatrical and music groups.

With 13 years spent at the House of Mouse, Ross has helped to build the Disney brand with original programming and global franchises, driving strong performance at Disney Channels Worldwide, and also overseeing the growth of Radio Disney and its various websites. Previously, he held several senior roles at Nickelodeon, and he’s currently on the board of directors for Hollywood Radio Television Society and Cable in the Classroom.
